Our Services

Jewel In The Crown specializes in fine antique restoration, custom design, furniture manufacture and finishing. Our restoration experts have a wealth of experience with furniture restoring and antique restoration and conservation.

In particular we specialize in:

French Polishing - We apply skill and knowledge to effectively implement the age-old techniques of French polish application. Shellac varnish was one of the most widely used finishes in furniture’s recent past, and remains popular among many craftsmen and furniture conservators.

Lacquer Finishing - This varnish takes on a very high polish and is the most modern method of finishing. It is applied in a series of thin layers, each of which must be dried and sanded before moving on to the next layer. It can be sprayed on wood, metal or leathers surfaces.

Custom Color Matching - In many instances ready mixed colors and stains do not come in the exact color needed.  Our experts can custom mix a matching color for you.

Fine and Decorated Painted Furniture Finishing - We can custom paint or finish your furniture piece to match your design or interior, for example: we can apply antiquing techniques to reproduce aged color, distress and cracks or artistically apply painted floral designs, human figures and landscapes.

Leather Ageing and Antiquing - Leather distress, ageing and antiquing is one of our most artistic and creative work specialties; we’ve been providing this specialty service to the finest decorators in the U.S. and abroad.

Serusing - The ancient Greeks applied this technique on terracotta pottery - the reddish or gray ornamented surface was washed with white paint. French Art Deco designers used this type of wash on furniture and art objects.  We use a similar technique on wood surfaces.

Shagreen Work - This is another technique popular with French Art Deco designers, it creates a very hard pearly shark skin like surface and can be applied to furniture in many decorative ways.

Parchment Work - This finish was inspired by the great French designer, Jean-Michel Frank. In the 1920's, he created exquisite parchment and vellum wrapped furniture for the sumptuous Art Deco interiors he designed.  Many of these pieces had inlays of exotic wood and shagreen.  We can apply this timeless technique in a variety of modern interpretations.

Mica Work and Finishing - Mica is a mineral which can be cleaved perfectly to produce thin, tough, shining golden or silvery plates which were used before glass became generally and cheaply available.  Glass is sometimes treated to imitate the look of mica.  French Art Deco furniture designers used Mica in many beautiful and decorative ways.  Our experts can custom design or restore any furniture piece using this stunning material.

Metal Aging and Antiquing - Antiquing is the process of aging a surface to produce a time-worn appearance. We can apply antiquing effects to all kinds of metals, creating a lovely aged appearance. We offer metal ageing, distress, antiquing and patina or as per customer request.

Gilding - The process known as Gilding simply means the application of gold, silver and copper leaf or metal leaf to a surface that has been properly prepared with an adhesive known as 'gilder's size'.  Our craftsmen can repair or transform everyday objects into heirlooms applying ageing and antiquing techniques.

Faux Finishing - Our distinctive faux finishes are created and applied at the highest level of craftsmanship and range anywhere from simple & subtle glazing techniques to elaborate and complex multi-layer textural effects that can imitate marble, wood grain or any type of surface.

Marble Repairs - Marble can really last forever if it is taken care of properly and maintained.  Our trained craftsmen can restore marble of any color and shape to its original beauty.

Mural and Paintings Restorations - Because of our training in the fine arts, and painting in particular, our expertise in mural and painting restoration is unmatched.  We can repair and restore any painting or mural to its original splendor efficiently and with great skill.

Architectural Objects Restoration - The process of restoration is a highly specialized operation. Its aim is to preserve and reveal the aesthetic and historic value of the object and is based on respect for original material and authentic values.  We can repair and restore any object whether made of wood or stone.

Complete Cabinetry Work - Our highly skilled and talented carpenter and cabinet maker can custom build a single piece or an entire installation for you, from your idea written on a note pad or a blue print from a professional designer.

Custom Upholstery - Our talented upholster can give furniture a custom look. If you have a special piece of quality furniture that is in need of repair, don’t replace it with costly new furniture - simply have it reupholstered. You can pick the exact fabric or leather that you want and add special finishing touches to make any piece look  truly unique.
